Welcome to Del Mar near San Diego, California, as the second day for this Breeders’ Cup 2025 is underway. It also represents the concluding day of top-level racing for the iconic rider Frankie Dettori, who is set to retire following a remarkable four-decade career.
Below is the full schedule of races scheduled today at Del Mar racetrack, displaying start times in Greenwich Mean Time:
This race was expected to be one of the stronger editions of this distinctive seven-furlong contest for fillies and mares. Yet, veterinary inspections resulted in several scratches this morning, including top contenders Sweet Azteca and Tamara.
As a result, the field now appears much smaller, but trainer Bob Baffert stands a strong chance to claim his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His entrants include Richi and Splendora, while Hope Road, winner of the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is considered the main challenger.
Selection: HOPE ROAD
A key European contenders, Arizona Blaze, was withdrawn yesterday, but focus stays on Khaadem and jockey Frankie Dettori, as they attempt to build on a recent Grade One win from the Woodford Stakes.
Other notable runners are Bucanero Fuerte as well as She’s Quality, each holding solid form. The US-trained rivals such as Motorious, Ag Bullet, and Reef Runner present serious challenges, with Ag Bullet showing elite-level ability in the Jaipur Stakes.
Selection: AG BULLET
Approximately a quarter-hour before the start for the Filly & Mare Sprint, the latest odds on the US tote include:
Beyond Dettori’s rides, additional standouts on the card include Rebel’s Romance, who could join an elite group as a three-time Breeders’ Cup winner. He faces Minnie Hauk as well as Goliath in a stellar edition of the Turf.
Conditioner from France Francis-Henri Graffard is represented by several entrants, such as Sahlan in the Mile plus Gezora in the Filly & Mare Turf, as he seeks to end a long winless streak for French runners at this meeting.
The Classic race offers an exciting contest between the top three from last year’s event and two of the first three from the Kentucky Derby.
