The past two days have been incredibly eventful. This past Monday, we celebrated the five-year anniversary of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a competition to decide the best first-party game of this console generation. We presented eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to compete against each other, all heading towards a championship round where the top game from each console would battle it out. There have been some nail-biting finishes in the first two rounds, especially the extremely tight polls from the previous day. Now, it's time to crown the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles ahead of the championship on Thursday.
For PlayStation 5, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected considering that it took home the top prize at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its win against God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. But to get to the finals, it'll have to go through the most valuable player of the PS5 generation: the acclaimed developer. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a smooth path to the final four, leaping past Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another title from the same studio!) to land in the final four. Will Spider-Man defeat a home-grown Sony mascot, or is he destined to become a miniature appearance in the upcoming Astro Bot title?
The Xbox Series X side has been more exciting. Emerging victorious from a diverse lineup of competitors is Forza Horizon 5. It's a big victory for the open-world driving game already, proving that a niche category title deserves to be on the equal footing as traditional jump-and-run games and cinematic action-adventure games. Its last roadblock on the way to the finals is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a fan favorite, beating critical darlings like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Will it overcome a much bigger game from an well-known franchise that's synonymous with Xbox itself? Should anyone manage this feat, it's probably Indy.
Cast your votes to determine the best PS5 and Xbox Series X games of this generation, and come back tomorrow to see which games will face off for the grand prize in the finals!
