A senior officer who rushed to the help of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker received the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he held a knife to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist following a traffic accident in the area in July 2023.
Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.
"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording shared by the police department showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood up, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife outstretched.
He ran into the officer who tripped and dropped to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the floor although being repeatedly struck with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a open target, concluding the fight to an conclusion.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get something on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sgt Ansell received multiple lacerations to his neck and additional injuries to his limbs and torso, while Sgt Foster received knife wounds.
The department said Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stem his partner's blood loss before paramedics arrived.
The new recognition comes after the three officers received internal Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the police federation award from the area Police Federation in early 2024.
They additionally received a Area Bravery Award in mid-2024.
"The efforts of all three officers in the end protected one another and resulted in no bystanders suffered any wounds."
