To mark the semiquincentennial of the United States' independence, the US Treasury is considering the issuance of a $1 coin featuring Donald Trump with a raised fist under an Stars and Stripes and the phrase “fight, fight, fight”.
These words clearly alludes to what Trump shouted immediately after escaping an assassination effort four months before he won a second term.
US Brandon Beach shared a preliminary design of the coin on Friday via X, saying: “No fake news here. These designs marking America’s 250th birthday and [Trump] are legitimate.”
The social media post – which amplified another commentator commenting on the coin concept – stated that Beach looked “excited to reveal additional details” after the end of the temporary shutdown that started after late Wednesday when Democratic senators demanding concessions on healthcare and other budgetary issues refused to provide the support necessary to pass a Republican-backed funding bill.
As noted, in 2020, at the conclusion of his initial term, Trump signed bipartisan legislation permitting the treasury secretary to release $1 coins during the calendar year 2026 that are “symbolic of the United States semiquincentennial”.
The obverse of the coin on whose draft design Beach weighed in Friday featured Trump’s likeness alongside “Freedom”, “Our Trust in God”, and “1776-2026”.
The back referenced the assassination attempt at a political rally in the state of Pennsylvania last year, when officials said a gunman wounded Trump’s right ear and wounded two others before being shot to death by the US Secret Service.
Trump clenched his hand after the shooting – one of two attempted assassinations for him as he campaign victoriously for a second Oval Office term in 2024 – and exclaimed, “Fight, fight, fight!” with an US flag prominent nearby.
A comment from a treasury department spokesperson stated that the concept which Beach’s online update discussed was not the “final $1 coin design”. But the statement maintained that “this proposal aptly represents the enduring spirit of our land and democratic system, even in the face of immense obstacles”.
Trump’s popularity on overall has plummeted to low levels, as his current term has cut medical safeguards and dietary support that helps the low-income, while also implementing tariffs that preceded a documented increase in everyday expenses.
Furthermore, the administration has also dispatched US soldiers into the public areas of various municipalities, eliminated roughly $500 million in support for vaccines such as the ones that contributed to ending the Covid pandemic, and had difficulty to manage a scandal over his former association with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
